Oh Thesaurus . . .

I looked up “weaker” in the actual real-life Webster’s Thesaurus on my bookshelf, and there is no reference for weaker. There are however, entries for Weak, Weaken, Weakling, and Weakness, none of which draw a reference to anything even remotely feminine in nature.

So to the asshole who I won’t bother linking to who wrote the diatribe on how this thesaurus.com find shouldn’t be surprising to women because ““Weaker sex” is a perfectly good synonym for women as a whole, and has been used for centuries” - you can eat it. The phrase ‘The weaker sex” hasn’t been acceptable to use for 40 years, my friend. Saying that reference in thesaurus.com is no big deal would be like typing the word “nigger” in the search box and expecting a reference to black people. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE.

Thesaurus.com isn’t the urban dictionary - it’s something we use to teach present and future generations how to properly use the English language, and as such it should NOT have any outdated sexist references to women.

This is so amazing, but I have to be honest - it crushed my little 80s heart-throb heart to see that new pic of him on the front page. I know Corey Haim cannot defy the laws of time and stop aging after “Dream A Little Dream”, but regardless of logic, I had completely forgotten that he had.

“Harmony Korine has a new, characteristically fucked-up looking movie coming out in May called Mister Lonely. The film, which stars Diego Luna and the great Samantha Morton, involves a Michael Jackson impersonator, flying nuns, and some other stuff, and I’m sure it’ll be real weird.” (via gorillavsbear.net)I’m more of a Lary Clark girl myself, but I can’t say I’m not excited to see a new Harmony Korine film on the horizon.

So farewell to your afternoon - if you like sketch comedy that is.

Enjoy.

OMG I can’t look at this while I’m at work but I’m very excited to check it out later tonight as I can already see that the Kids in The Hall “Citizen Kane” skit is repping. Yesssss! Fingers crossed for the blind date with Chicken Lady!

The Mae Shi - Run to Your Grave

My friend Kristin just forwarded me this awesome track.
[Edit. I’ve now listened to this song like 100 times today. Still not sick of it.]

When I go into a public restroom I almost always go into the same stall. 4th down the line or 2nd from the end; whichever looks cleanest, has a working door, unoccupied, etc. I wonder if I’m just crazy like that or if everyone has a “preferred” stall. Does anyone ever go in the first stall? Maybe I should switch to the first stall.

It must be spring because my cheeks are all rosy.

Friday I get to supervise a Rolling Stone shoot with The French Kicks. I fucking love my job and this week is shaping up nicely.

Bro-mancing the Stone(r)

My boyfriend is the manager of an adorable little SoHo coffee shop which has outgrown it’s tiny staff and needs someone new. So I helped him write an ad yesterday (he’s new at this manager thing) and we went through the e-mails tonight and … wow.

First off, its amazing what some women think will get them a job (and probably equally amazing that I’m sure it often works). Many of the responses contained a photo but no resume or experience. It’s ok honey, your face is your resume, right? Wrong. These were mostly the “OMG like of course I’m a singer and model and aspiring actress” types with their wannabe quirky yet boring copied and pasted cover letters (and yes one actually said that line above).

There was one chick who looked like Peyton from Rock of Love. There was the girl who capitalized all of the things she thought were cool, such as how she had “worked with RICHARD GERE”, and then there was the girl who capitalized nothing and said “kewl” 30+ times. Then there was the girl who talked about masturbating and then talked about how she might be crazy. Umm, yeah - totally gonna hire you. All of you.

And the guys. Oh sigh. Not much better on that end. One guy thought he should specifically point out that he frequently listens to the music of the bands he knows, like his friends the Moldy Peaches. Yes. He actually said that. In a cover letter. Color me impressed dude, you’re fucking hired.

I know my boyfriend really wants what’s best for the shop, but at the same time he can’t deny that taking out this ad is a little like taking out a personal ad for a friend. This person has to sit behind a tiny little counter with him for 7 hours a day and it would be helpful if they’ve got similar taste in music and things to talk about. I think he really just wants somebody who will ride their fixed gear to work and talk about fancy handlebars and tattoos and The Clash with him then maybe smoke a J after work. Bromance in the big city at it’s finest. We’ll see what actually happens.
