I changed my tumblr theme. Mostly because I think that little animated tape for the music uploads is adorable.

If only it were that easy
If I re-blogged myself would the time-space continuum become warped and the internet/life as we know it cease to exist?
Gender and the Tumblr ratio
After several conversations on the topic, I am really curious about this question:What is the ratio following to followers by gender?
please reblog or email me your answer. You don’t have to disclose your actual number of followers, just a simply say your own gender and divide the total number of people you are following by total numbet of followers and the number of months you’ve been on tumblr. **** you do not have to look at whether your own followers are male or female**** My guess is women will have a ratio of 0.75 and men will be closer to 1.8. If I get enough of a sample I’ll post the results in a couple of days.
unless marco has this data and can just answer it easily??
Female, .047, 6 months.
Tumblr needs dashboard filters
I think everyone on tumblr is super-duper cool, but I’m toying with the idea od un-following everyone except the people I actually know in real life. The thing is, my friends keep posting stuff, but I never see any of it on my dashboard because it fills up with everyone else’s stuff and gets lost 100 pages deep.
And as much as everyone on here is interesting and informative and funny - I feel like I’m missing out on things that my real-life best friends post.
So If I un-follow you this weekend, please understand it’s not personal. If tumblr ever offers filters on the dashboard (i.e. groups I can put people in to decide who/what I want to read on that visit) I’ll follow you all again I’m sure. Or I may hate it and re-follow everyone in 2 days. Who knows.
Breaking up is hard to do.
Damn you, tumblr.
After much thought this morning and a couple of encouraging e-mails (thank you!), I’ve decided to continue my love affair with tumblr.
Having a seperate “web page” style blog which doesn’t aggregate feeds feels kind-of 2007. And I’m all about being a part of the future.
I’m going to stop reading my dashboard so much and stop reblogging so much and put more of me into this and hope that solves the problem. Also, this isn’t Digg.
I'm a loner, Dottie.
Dear Tumblr,
I like having a blog. I just don’t know if I want it to be part of a social network with my blogging. I guess I’m a bit of a loner in that I just want to write about things and not have to worry about feedback and reblogs and the opinions of others, which I feel ultimately may be inadvertently changing the way I express myself about things.
Its like this; If I’m going to put my thoughts on something out there, I’d like to forget my “audience” and be lost in the moment and just express my pure unabashed feelings about it. And I don’t think I can do that on this platform.
It’s not you, it’s me.

I’m bored with the internet. Seriously. Tumblr. Myspace. Flickr. Livejournal. RSS. Not doing it for me lately. I feel like I used to be more inspired to sew and create and LIVE before any of this.
It’s fucking spring. I should be cleaning and riding my bike and sewing dresses and eating pizza on my stoop.
It’s not like I’m leaving. Just taking it easy until I have something relevant to say or read.
Tumblr user yungsang made a Muxtape inspired hack for listening to Tumblr audio posts from a certain user. Click the first box to play the Tumblr audio posts as a playlist. Change the part of the URL that says “joelaz” to your own Tumblr user name to listen to your tracks.
So rad! Here is mine. I guess I need to get with a theme and stop just posting random music.
As the world blogs
In response to my “As the world blogs” post, overit wrote:
“Well, it gets even SMALLER cause that stranger who came up to you at the bar in Chicago and knew you from diaryland was me! And I just started following you on tumblr yesterday!! The internet is crazy. I saw your post about the penis project and was like whoa, I remember way back when she did that.”
HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT! This is so awesome! I am speechless. Wow. You know, there may be a million “bloggers” or whatever out there, but I really feel that at the core of everything there must be a small group of us who’ve been doing this for a decade and have inadvertently known each other really closely for years.
As the world blogs
I was thinking about diaryland.com this morning. I started my first diaryland account in Denver in 2000 when I was having trouble dealing with the death of a very close friend and starting an online diary was suggested to me by another very close friend who also had one.
About 6 months in to D’land someone e-mailed me that they had stumbled onto my online diary and that it reminded them a lot of another girl’s diary from Chicago and that I should check her’s out as well. I did and we quickly became friends. After a few years of being friends online she flew to Denver to hang out with me in person for a weekend and we decided the world needed us to join forces in the same city and fight for all things awesome together. Eight years after meeting on Diaryland, Sarah and I both live in Brooklyn. She’s one of my best friends in the world and we hang out constantly.
Then last summer while I was on tour a stranger walked up to me at a bar and asked if I was (redacted) from Diaryland and Livejournal. She recognized me from photos I had posted in one of my online diaries from years ago and said she felt like she knew me. I had used my diaryland and livejournal accounts for years telling tales of heartbreak, addiction, suicide, loss, love, gossip, and everything in between and I realized that it’s quite likely that this complete stranger knew more about me than my own mother.
And I’m fine with that.
Isn’t it strange how the internet makes the world so much smaller and intertwines us all?
